Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Retail Buyer to join our Commercial team. Reporting to the Buying Manager, this role delivers the buying and ranging strategy through carrying out the sourcing plan within the prescribed category delivering the right product at the right time for customers with maximum cost effectiveness.  Reporting to the Head of Buying, you will focus on delivering the Group buying and ranging strategy and supporting our new Commercial division.  Providing the right products from around the world at maximum cost effectiveness, to an agreed ranging plan and reactively to meet the demands of our Commercial sales team

The Role

    • Ensure that we meet the product needs of our Commercial and Retail customers
    • Leverage our existing portfolio of products into the Commercial channel and build product collections
    • List new suppliers, identify product and develop bespoke products as required to support our ambitions
    • Review current sourcing methods and suppliers to ensure value for money and ethical sourcing
    • Harmonise the commercial supplier base into Group Buying – maximize scale and profit
    • Develop an annual category plan following divisional stakeholder engagement
    • Provide the business with real time data on competition, technology and product fashion

    • Be the ultimate Buying support function to our Commercial division
    • Add value to an experienced and energetic Buying Team
    • Enhance and build existing and new supplier relationships

    • Improve gross margin and category sales
    • Accountability for product spend
    • Ensure business risk to currency and region is effectively managed
    • Set and review inter-company pricing levels

     

    Risk / Process

    • Ensure robust exit plan for discontinued stock
    Minimise product wastage an over investment in-stockTo promote best practice and working relations with the store network
  • To ensure that the customer is able to buy from a wide range of products and ranges
  • Identify range opportunities with the Buying Manager
  • To provide the link between the supply chain and distribution
  • To enhance supplier relationships and promote brand
  • Review current sourcing methods and suppliers to ensure value for money and ethical sourcing
  • To provide the business with real time data on competition, current trends and fashion
  • Ensure business risk to currency and region is effectively managed
  • To review the price point structure and create a range architecture
  • To ensure a market leading range based on colour, design quality and style at all times
  • To source ‘exclusive’ ranges bespoke for Topps customers
  • Ensure good exit plan for discontinued stock
  • Improve gross margin and category sales
  • Reduce stock capacity
  • Overall accountability for product spend

The Person

    • Strong buying experience, proven track record of achievement and high performance in a sourcing role
    • Understanding of the Commercial sector – primarily A&D market
    • Technically knowledgeable about tiles and their role in project specification
    • International sourcing experience and a strong network of international contacts
    • Ability to coach, develop and mentor a Junior Buyer
    • A strong interest in home improvement and interior design
    • Able to undertake significant overseas travel (up to 3 months a year)
    • Success in developing collaborative long term supplier relationships
    • Highly developed influencing and negotiation techniques
    • Constructively challenge opinions and status quo
    • Demonstrate creative thinking, use of initiative and ‘thinking outside the box’
    • Highly commercial with exceptional organisational and influencing skills
    • Professional and collaborative in approach, able to develop strong working relationships across the business and with suppliers
    • Good leadership skills with the ability to challenge as well as inspire and coach

    Desirable

    • Experience of a Similar Buying role last 5+years
    • Broad tile market understanding
